Meghan Markle is now one step closer to becoming a member the royal family.

With their May 19 wedding quickly approaching, there has been much speculation about whether or not Markle would have to convert to the Church of England.

However, it was later revealed that she would not have to.

Instead, the bride-to-be had a secret ceremony as a sign of respect to Queen Elizabeth II and the royal family.

On Tuesday March 6, with fiancé Prince Harry by her side, Meghan Markle was baptized by the Archbishop of Canterbury in the Chapel Royal at St. James’s Place in London.

This particular chapel has special meaning to Prince Harry. In 1997, Princess Diana’s body was laid there before her 1997 funeral.

The 45-minutes service was also attended by her future father-in-law, Prince Charles, and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall.

However the Queen, who serves the role as head of the Church of England, and Prince William and Kate were not in attendance.

During the ceremony, water from the River Jordan was poured onto Markle’s head.

Kate Middleton was baptized as a baby, however, she went through a similar ceremony ahead of her wedding to William in 2011.
