“The #sismo detected in Mexico City originated artificially. Possibly by massive jumps during the goal of the selection of #México in the World Cup. At least two sensors inside the city detected it at 11:32,” stated SIMMSA in a tweet, which is part of the Institute of Geological and Atmospheric Research.

“During the match the Mexican team managed to get an entry at minute 35:07, it is the moment in which our monitoring systems detected a seismic movement with an acceleration of 37 m / s2 on at least two sensors inside Mexico City, produced most likely in the celebration of it in a massive way,” stated SIMMSA.
Specifically, the earthquake was registered at Venustiano Carranza and Coyoacan in Mexico City, said SIMMSA. These are locations of public squares where thousands of people gathered to watch the match.

Mexico held on to win 1-0, recording a huge upset over the defending champions, who are also the favorites this year.
It was Germany’s first opening match loss in World Cup competition since 1982. And it was Mexico’s first win over Germany in international competition since 1985, reports the BBC.
Mexico and Germany play in Group F, along with Sweden and South Korea. Each team plays one another once, with the top two teams advancing. Sweden already beat South Korea.
So to advance to the next phase, Germany must beat Sweden and South Korea.
