Mike Trout reminds everyone he's MLB's best with historic Yankees drubbing
Two-time American League MVP Mike Trout has had a lot of highs in the MLB career, but Saturday he did something he’s never done before.
The Los Angeles Angels star went 5-for-5 for the first time in his career in the Halos’ 11-4 drubbing of the New York Yankees.
Trout had a home run, three doubles and a single and drove in four runs. It was also the first time Trout had four extra base hits in one game.
He’s now homered in three straight games to give him 17 on the season, which ties him for the AL lead with Boston’s Mookie Betts.

Trout raised his batting average 20 points on the day, going from .293 to .313.
“It’s awesome,” Trout said, reported the Orange County Register. “Just the preparation and working on timing and it paid off tonight. I was just getting pitches where I like it and I wasn’t missing them.”
Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Trout gave them a big lift against one of the league’s best teams.
“He had a night that was incredible,” Scioscia said, according to the Register. “He’s certainly capable of doing what you saw out there tonight. It was big for us. It gave us a big lift and we needed it. In this park, you gotta keep scoring and we did.”
Trout’s two-run homer off Yankees starter Sonny Gray in the fourth gave the Angels a 5-4 lead, and they never looked back from there.

The Yankees jumped all over Angels starter Jaime Barria as the first two batters, Brett Gardner and Aaron Judge, went yard back-to-back in the bottom of the first.
Then in the second, Austin Romine hit a two-run shot to make it 4-1. But Barria (4-1) settled down after that and only gave up two more hits the rest of the way to get the win.
“I think you saw his makeup right there,” Scioscia said of Barría, reported the Register. “This could have taken some ugly turns. After the second he found he mix of pitches, found his command. That’s an important five innings. The last three zeros were important for us, especially with us getting back into the game.”

Trout now has 17 home runs, 39 RBIs and an OPS of 1.148. He has a slugging percentage of .687 and 12 doubles.
Betts is batting .359 with 17 homers, 39 RBIs and an OPS of 1.187. Betts leads the league in batting average and OPS, along with doubles (19) and slugging percentage .750.
Try to convince me that Mookie Betts isn’t the best player in Baseball right now.
