MLB Player Shames All NFL Kneelers After Saying What He Thought About SOTU Speech
The low point in the recent history of American sports, by far, is the NFL’s anthem kneelers. The display of anti-Americanism is sickening, to say the least. Because of this, it’s always refreshing to see other major sport’s athletes show pride in their country.
Enter Washington Nationals’ outfielder Jayson Werth.
Weth was a special guest to the State of the Union address Tuesday night, courtesy of Illinois Republican Rep. Rodney Davis.
According to The Washington Post, Werth is an Illinois native who owns an organic farm and is a huge proponent of organic farming. Because of this, the ballplayer met Davis at a speaking event in December, and was then invited to be his guest for the speech.
But it was what Werth said after the event that put the anthem protesters to shame.
In an interview with C-SPAN, Werth said, “I didn’t really know what to expect coming in. This was the first time I’ve ever done anything like this. Been working with these guys with organic farming and doing some stuff for the farm bill. But I was really inspired.”
He then dropped a bombshell. He said, “I felt like it was a great time to be an American, and I thought President Trump did a great job. He hit all the points, and he spoke really well, and I was inspired.”

Wow! How many times have you heard NFL players say that it was a great time to be American?
And it might not be the last you’ve heard from Werth, even if you’re not a Nationals fan.
As the Post asked:
“After seven years in Washington and as a natural in on the Hill, could Werth become an unexpected member of that club of prominent athletes who turn to a career in politics?”
The answer seems to be a resounding maybe.
“I care about these things, and I can’t play baseball forever,” Werth told the Post. “You hear about these guys, and after they’re done playing, they don’t really have much going on. Some do. But you have to have a plan, right?”
With an attitude like he had after the State of the Union speech, all arrows point to him being a potential great politician. After all, it’s so refreshing to see someone show pride in America rather than disgrace the country by kneeling during the national anthem.
