Mom and Baby Miraculously Survive After Mother Suffers Massive Stroke While Pregnant
Most women who have ever experienced a pregnancy have probably heard the term “preeclampsia” at one point or another.
According to Mayo Clinic, the condition relates to high blood pressure and involves organ damage and other complications.
Preeclampsia is dangerous and often times a baby will be delivered early since this condition can be life-threatening for both mom and her little one.
This was sadly the case for 24-year-old Claire Winnett. When she was 29 weeks pregnant with her daughter Sienna, Winnett’s preeclampsia caused her arm to shake terribly.
After she was rushed to the Doncaster Royal Infirmary, doctors found via MRI that Winnett had a brain bleed, according to Daily Mail.
She was quickly transferred to another hospital — Sheffield’s Royal Hallamshire — and more complications were found.
Winnett had a blood clot along with deep vein thrombosis. Sienna was born via C-section the next day at 2 pounds 4 ounces.
“I felt like my world had come crashing down when I [realized] I had a stroke,” Winnett told Daily Mail. “I just couldn’t believe it. The doctor said I could have died but before they could operate they wanted to save the baby.”
Once Sienna was born, Winnett underwent surgery to relieve brain pressure. Adam Jones, the baby’s father and Winnett’s fiancé, was terrified.
“It was absolutely horrible for me. I didn’t know what to think or how to feel,” Jones said. “I honestly didn’t think Claire would make it. They told me she might not make it through the surgery. I had to pray for Claire.”
Thankfully, the mom did make it through, though the road hasn’t been easy. Winnett continues to suffer from brain swelling. She uses a wheelchair and has to wear a helmet to protect her head when she goes somewhere.
Even so, she is grateful she and Sienna survived the ordeal. “They said we were both lucky to survive. It’s so rare for this to happen during pregnancy,” Winnett said, according to The Epoch Times.
“We both could have died. I had no idea how serious it was until afterward.”
Winnett is reportedly scheduled for a bone graft surgery later this year and Sienna is doing well at home. It’s a true miracle they came through this together.
