Mom Shares Brilliant Shower Curtain Hack That Makes Taking Toddlers to Beach a Breeze

Share

There are so many fantastic things about summer. Popular list-toppers include fun road trips, family cookouts, homemade ice pops, music festivals, and nighttime skies full of sparkling stars.

But what’s even better than making great summer memories? Saving some money in the process.

Fortunately, it’s pretty easy to find budget-friendly ideas. In fact, a quick online scan reveals some ingenious warm-weather hacks.

One mother in particular is being applauded across social media for her baby-friendly beach solution. According to various snippets posted on YouTube and elsewhere, a South Carolina mom named Megan came up with the novel idea.

Apparently, Megan’s inexpensive trick was inspired by a family vacation to the seashore. The couple’s 9-month-old son, Davis, was far too tiny to venture out into the water.

So Megan created a way for Davis to enjoy his own private waterfront wading pool. Her crafty secret?

An everyday shower curtain liner. She folded up an old plastic liner, then tucked it in with the other travel supplies.

When everyone arrived at the beach, Megan simply dug a shallow hole in the damp sand. The liner was spread across this round little ditch, which was in turn filled with water.

Voila! Davis was able to safely splash around in his own beachy baby pool for hours, carefully supervised by his parents.

What makes this awesome hack even better is that the inexpensive liner can be easily discarded before you depart. Easy packing, easy setup, easy disposal.

Are close-to-home “staycations” more your style this summer? Reader’s Digest offers a few inventive ideas to help safeguard your budget here, too.

First, don’t forget that regular household bleach is an easy way to sanitize pool toys. The Reader’s Digest folks recommend mixing one gallon of water with two cups of plain bleach.

You can use this homemade disinfectant to periodically wipe down inner tubes, beach balls, pool noodles, and even vinyl lounge chairs. Don’t forget to rinse everything off with clear water when you’re finished.

Looking for a super-easy way to keep snacks cold on weekend outings with the kids? The website onecrazyhouse.com suggests water balloons, of all things.

Specifically, they recommend filling and tying a bunch of colorful balloons so that each one’s roughly the size of a baseball or softball. Pack these in your cooler to keep food chilled — and when they thaw, you can enjoy an instant water balloon fight!
