Mom Shares Photos of Adorable Birthday Dinner 4-Year-Old Son Took Best Friend To

Share

There is a lot to be said for good, old fashioned dating. Remember the days when a date came to your door with flowers in hand, ladies?

My dad wouldn’t let me leave the house for a date unless the young man got out of his car and knocked on the door. “That’s what a gentleman would do,” my dad would say.

One mom is teaching her son to be a gentleman from the get-go. Mason is only 4 years old, but he’s years ahead of some.

This strapping young man knows how to treat a girl right. When it came time for his best friend Adalynn’s birthday, Mason knew just what to do.

According to Kendra Chastain, Mason’s mother, Mason and Adalynn have known each other since before they were born.

“Her mom and I have been best friends since we were about 10,” Chastain told Liftable, a brand of The Western Journal. “We were pregnant together and the kids are 3 months apart.”

“When I asked him what he wanted to get ‘AK’ as we call her, for her birthday day he started thinking,” Chastain told Liftable. “I reminded him that she has tons of toys and clothes and he decided that he would take her to eat (like we always do for other people’s birthday) and buy her flowers.”

Chastain told Mason that “if he wanted to take her out, we had to do it right.” So, Mason called Adalynn’s father and asked if he could take her out on the town.

Chastain shared the entire event through photos and video on social media. From his tucked-in collared shirt to his fancy belt buckle, Mason put on his best to give this little girl the best birthday present ever.

“Mason paid for the food with his money, held Adalynn’s hand every single time they were walking, opened every door for her, (even the car), and brought her flowers that he picked out,” Chastain wrote on Facebook.

The sweet guy remained a complete gentleman throughout the entire evening. And it appears the birthday girl couldn’t stop smiling.

“My heart has rarely been more full than it was tonight,” Kendra said. Like any parent, this mom is proud of her son for treating his friend right.

She has a message for other parents, too.

“Mommas and daddy’s…. it is OUR DUTY to show these boys how to be a gentleman, and these young ladies what to expect out of a man,” Chastain wrote on Facebook. “How else will they learn if not by example?”

Her words ring so true and serve as an encouraging reminder that it’s our job as parents to set an example for our kids.

“The greatest lesson my husband and I strive to teach both of our boys is to treat people the way you want to be treated,” Chastain told Liftable.

“Chivalry doesn’t have to be dead, we just need a few good gentlemen to show up and teach others.”
