Mom Tells Son to Put Down Expensive Shoes, Then NFL Star Pulls Out His Own Wallet
Marcus Peters, cornerback for the Kansas City Chiefs, is a recognizable figure to many. Most of the media coverage about Peters is related who he is as an NFL player.
His hat and hoodie made him difficult to identify, however, while he was shopping at the Oak Park Mall. Yet, he would still be recognized eventually, not for who he is as an athlete, but for who he is as a human being.
Peters was not seeking this recognition. He actually wanted to recognize a young man for his respectful attitude.
ZaMarion was the 12-year-old who impressed Peters. ZaMarion’s mother, Larissa Coffie, took him shopping with her at the mall.
The goal of the mother and son shopping trip was to find formal wear. ZaMarion really wanted to check out the shoes at Footaction, too.
As he browsed the latest styles, his attention was drawn to Air Jordans. “They are the best shoes in the world,” ZaMarion declared according to The Kansas City Star.
Despite them being the best shoes, Coffie wasn’t going to buy the expensive shoes for her son. They cost around $200.
She asked her son to put them away. This is the moment when many children whine, protest, or beg for the desired item while shopping.
ZaMarion simply listened to his mother and put the shoes away. Peters happened to witness this respectful conversation between a mother and her son.
According to KSHB, Peters commented, “He went and put that down very respectful. He didn’t smack.”
Then, he asked the boy to try on the shoes. Peters ended up pulling out his own wallet to buy two pairs of expensive shoes for ZaMarion.
Peters refused to take a photo. He also only gave his first name when asked.
All Coffie knew was this kind stranger was a man named Marcus. She posted about this random act of kindness on Facebook.
Once the name Marcus Peters came up in the conversation, she realized the man really was a famous NFL player. Coffie wrote on Facebook, “I just thought he was a nice guy.”
“He just did something out of the kindness of his heart and then disappeared. It was like he was an angel that popped in and popped out,” she told KSHB.
Often times, there will be no NFL star to reward a child who listens to his parents. This heartwarming story of an “angel” reminds us that even when we don’t realize it, there are people who take notice of our actions though!
