Mom Writes Heartbreaking Letter During Her Kid's Last Summer Ever at Home
You think the day will never come. You hold your newborn infant in your arms, and you feel they’ll always be this little.
But, seasons change and kids grow up. From that first birthday milestone to the year of their sweet sixteen, the years pass by in a blur.
Our children trade in ABCs and 123s for a driver’s license and a first job. All too soon, they’re fleeing the nest, and we ask how it all happened in a blink.
Heather Duckworth of Love, Faith, & Chaos has become well-known for her heartbreaking and insightful posts on social media.
Rather than complaining and groaning when motherhood throws a mess her way, this viral mama has learned to embrace her role as a mom in the fullest way possible.
Never keeping the focus on herself, Heather always shares her experiences with her children and family.
She offers reflective words of encouragement, and she always includes a Bible verse at the end of her posts.
While followers have seen her write about her young kids, it turns out those cute boys of hers aren’t really so little anymore.
In fact, they recently graduated high school. Sadly this twosome was once a threesome, as one of Heather’s triplets passed away from cancer at the young age of 3.
The graduation celebration may be bittersweet while missing the son who never grew up, but Heather has continued to be thankful, despite what she’s lost.
And so, she wrote of shoes. Shoes piled before her front door in a haphazard, chaotic mess. And Heather is loving every minute of it.
One of her more recent posts was affectionately titled “The 18th Summer.” In her letter, Heather looks back on the last 17 summers with her now graduates.
“They say you only have 18 summers with your kids. I am on number 18 with mine,” she wrote.
Heather goes on to share the hurt she feels over her boys leaving the nest. But she also talks about choosing “happiness and joy for this moment right now.”
Her words will melt any parent’s heart. Some of us have years until “The 18th Summer” with our babies. For others, Heather’s words will hit very close to home.
“…treasure this summer of the shoes…” Heather says. “…all too soon those shoes will be running off exploring the world…”
