Moment Sweet Baby Hears Daddy's Voice for First Time, Mom Can't Help but Cry
For a parent, there is nothing quite like hearing the sweet sound of your child’s voice for the very first time. A “coo” or an “ahh” is so precious — especially in those early months of life.
And, likewise, when a baby hears mom or dad’s voice, it must bring comfort to their ears. The longer those voices provide a sense of safety, the more important they become.
But, what happens when a child is born with hearing loss? The world must seem a confusing place, full of lights and images without sounds attached.
Communication would be difficult as well. For an infant without fine motor skills, sign language is a challenge — like any language, it takes time to master.
For some, there is hope thanks to the invention of hearing aids and cochlear implants.
And for a child who hasn’t experienced the sound of a parent’s voice?
These devices provide as close to a miracle as it gets. Just ask Audrey Williams’ parents.
Back in 2012, Paul and Alexandra Williams learned their baby girl was born with impaired hearing. It took eight long months and surgery, but the wait became worth it the day Audrey’s cochlear implants were turned on.
Watch as she hears mom and dad’s voice clearly for the first time. Her reaction will bring tears to your eyes.
“Audrey,” her dad says from behind the camera. When she whips her head to the side and faces him, her mama can’t hold back the waterworks any longer.
I don’t blame her. I got a bit choked up myself.
“I was very moved, very emotional,” Dr. Paul Williams shared in an article. “That was probably the first time she’s ever heard my voice in her life.”
What a sweet memory for an incredibly sweet family. Audrey’s two-tooth, open-mouthed grin is sure to be one they’ll never forget.
