Mother Posts Video of Blind Son Belting Out 'How Great Thou Art' from Backseat
Some of the most inspiring stories come to us in the smallest of packages. While our culture teaches that “bigger is better,” this is simply not the case more often than not.
The simplest of joys may seem small or insignificant, but they’re often the things that have the greatest impact.
Take Parker Brown, for example. Like most little boys, Parker is full of energy and loves to socialize. But Parker is also different in that he’s had to overcome some very big obstacles.
This young man has Norrie Disease. Diagnosed with the condition at just 5 weeks old, Parker suffers from congenital blindness. He’s also at risk for hearing loss in the future.
While this sort of news would be devastating for any parents, Parker’s mom and dad didn’t lose hope. Instead, Felisha and Matt Brown decided to hope.
In December 2013, Parker started speech therapy. The Therapy S.P.O.T. in Statesboro, Georgia, provides speech, physical, and occupational therapy to families in a “fun, family and child centered environment,” the organization’s website reads.
His mother Felisha credits Parker’s success and growth to early intervention and his time spent in therapy.
“Parker demonstrated early on that he is a very smart, determined and fearless child that is eager to learn and explore all that he can and lets nothing stand in his way,” a Therapy S.P.O.T. blog post says.
He is now attending a mainstream school and while he still attends therapy sessions, the blog post said Parker “enjoys every single minute of it!”
His story and infectious joy have become an inspiration and blessing to many. In the past six months, a video his mom took of him in the car has gone viral.
In June, Felisha shared her heart, explaining exactly how she feels about the love being spread over her son.
“Parker is still inspiring people!!!” she wrote on Facebook on June 11. “I spent the morning reading all of the new comments on his video… Amazingly beautiful…”
If you haven’t seen Parker’s singing session, prepare yourself to be inspired along with 6 million others. Watch as he belts “How Great Thou Art” at the top of his lungs.
His mom is right. This is “amazingly beautiful.” If only we could all sing with as much heart and joy as this little boy.
“…moments like this one remind me that everything is going to be okay…” Felisha wrote on the original video’s caption. “…He is happy… and I can be too…”
Amen to that. Parker sets an example for us all, proving that no matter what life throws your way, there is always something to sing about.
