Mother Shares Heartwarming Video of Nurse Playing Ukulele and Singing to Son with Cancer
It takes a truly special person to work with sick children. While joy can be found in the wings of children’s hospitals there is also much sadness and heartbreak to be seen.
Those who work in this particular profession know they will see good days and bad. They expect crying parents and children who take their final breaths.
Children with terminal illnesses have so much light to shine. The doctors and nurses who treat them are often unique individuals who go above and beyond to assure that quality of care goes beyond a checklist on a clipboard.
One little girl from the U.K. fought for two long years against the neuroblastoma she was diagnosed with at the young age of 2.
Siobhan Mathers sadly lost that battle on June 1, 2019, according to a Facebook post from June 2. She was surrounded by her loving family who has shared many memories on the little girl’s page, Siobhan Mather’s Fight Against Neuroblastoma.
“Siobhan made us the proudest parents with the strength she carried everyday, she really was our superhero,” the family wrote. “We will miss and love her always, she will forever be in our hearts!!!”
They also thanked the team at GOSH (Great Ormond Street Hospital) who treated and cared for their baby girl as best they could.
One person in particular made a lasting impact on everyone’s hearts for how much she cared and how beautifully she expressed that care.
“I have attached a video, to show everyone the amazing work that all the nurses do, not only to try and help save the children with the outstanding care they give, but to make them feel safe and happy in their care,” a post from May 5 reads.
Watch as nurse Beth Porch plays guitar and sings to the little girl. This is so heartwarming. Be sure to have those tissues handy!
This isn’t the only time this singing nurse — who writes Christian music — has cared for her patients in this way.
Another mom posted about Beth on Twitter, sharing how the nurse sang and played the ukulele while her son was being treated for cancer.
Mom Gemma writes that her son, Artie, is currently battling Burkitt’s Lymphoma, an aggressive form of cancer. Thanks to nurses like Porch, though, these brave little fighters can enjoy some musical peace.
