Mother Goes Viral After Stopping Group of Girls at Grocery Store To Find Son a Date
Parents definitely mean well, but sometimes their best efforts to help their children may be embarrassing. Codey Gonzalez was in this exact position with his mother, Patricia, when she went out on the prowl to find a date for him, according to MRT.
But while his mother’s efforts may have been initially embarrassing, the University of Texas at San Antonio student soon found himself with a potential love interest.
When Patricia was shopping at an H-E-B supermarket, she ran across a group of girls and thought one might make a fine sweetheart for her son.
Among those girls was Charisma Valdez, who was shopping with her roommates that day. They soon ran into Gonzalez’s mom, who was ready to promote her son’s best qualities.
Her pitch was simple: he’s “gotta big head but he’s going places,” she said.
Of course, the girls were amused, and a description of his looks was requested. Patricia showed the girls a picture of her son, explaining that he was 6’4” and a global affairs major.
Valdez, also known as @charisma14 on Twitter, shared the story of meeting Patricia at the grocery store that day and the rest you could say was history.
Intrigued, Valdez reached out to Gonzalez via Twitter, but he didn’t have an account. Thankfully, his friends jumped in to help and the two finally connected.
In her post, Valdez wrote, “If your name is Cody, you’re 6’4, you go to UTSA, live at the Outpost, a sophomore, AND majoring in Global Affairs. Your mom truly is your wingman. She just showed my roommates and I your pictures at HEB trying to find you a GF.”

So far, the tweet has garnered an unexpected 62,000 likes and more than 4,000 retweets.
Gonzalez had no idea what his mom had done before his friend sent him a screenshot of the tweet from Valdez the following morning. All he knew was his mom had met Valdez after striking up a conversation about their puppy.
“This was the first time I have heard about her doing anything like this,” Gonzalez told MRT. “She has always had my back. So for her to try to find a girl for me, it just shows her motherly instincts.”
The two students from the same school had never met, but they struck up a conversion. Eventually, Gonzalez created a Twitter account because so many people were impersonating him on the site.
Would the two lovebirds finally meet up? Twitter was buzzing with what would happen next.
“THIS IS WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT,” one commenter wrote.
Others tried their hand at getting Gonzalez’s attention, but it seemed he only had eyes for Valdez.
While Gonzalez told MRT that he wasn’t shocked or embarrassed by his mom’s wingman approach, she was certainly surprised to find out he had become so famous on Twitter.
“She was so surprised!” he told MRT. “She didn’t know what to say, she didn’t even know what Twitter was at first.”

One might credit Patricia for her approach, as Gonzalez and Valdez talked frequently and finally did make plans to meet up. Even Twitter approved of the newfound relationship.
One Twitter user even wished his mom would do the same posting, “I love my mom but… she is not getting grandkids if she doesn’t put in some better effort.”
Finally, the two met as evidenced by the photo Valdez tweeted of herself smiling next to Gonzalez.
This is a love story for the record books and we do hope that Gonzalez and Valdez keep us posted on their relationship.
