MSNBC's Reid: Kemp Used Bioengineering to Get Enough White Voters to Win

Share

I’m personally convinced the weekend morning block on MSNBC is when they shuffle off anchors and personalities they’re contractually obligated to present but have no confidence regarding their intellectual credibility.

This is because I’m also convinced that, on weekends, MSNBC’s target audience is young and libertine enough to either be sleeping off a hangover or yet to go bed to sleep off the hangover they’re eventually going to have. So they’re either unconscious or of an altered consciousness. What a perfect time to trot out Joy Reid!

Reid, for those of you unfamiliar with the host of “A.M. Joy,” is an abusive, ill-informed homophobe who claimed she was retroactively hacked when her bigotry came to light. She still has a job at MSNBC because, well, nobody’s really watching a weekend morning show on the Maddow Network anyway.

And thank God, because Reid apparently can’t read polls and believes Georgia’s Brian Kemp “bioengineered” a white electorate to win the gubernatorial election.

No, this is not some sort of reverse version of “Get Out.” On Sunday’s “A.M. Joy,” Reid again pushed the narrative that “voter suppression” was the only real reason that Kemp, Georgia’s now-former secretary of state, appears to have beaten former state Rep. Stacey Abrams in the election on Tuesday. (The votes are still being counted.)

Before we go forward, you’ve probably heard this voter suppression claim a lot in the Georgia race. Let me explain what it means.

Georgia is one of several states that has an “exact match” voter registration law, essentially meaning that the information on your voter registration application — name, date of birth, that sort of thing — must exactly match state records. If it doesn’t, the registration is marked as “pending” and the individual has 26 months to sort out the mismatch, according to The Weekly Standard. Georgia also purges inactive voters in accordance with a 1990s law passed by Democrats, so there goes that theory.

This is what everyone is talking about and is, according to Reid, “voter suppression” because the majority of individuals affected under these pre-existing laws are minorities. That wasn’t the intention of the laws, mind you, but apparently Reid and others believe that Kemp specifically suppressed minority turnout by simply following the laws as written.

“I think the big, glaring spotlight on this race was about Brian Kemp’s long history of voter suppression — very sort of open, like brazen voter suppression,” Reid said, according to Newsbusters.

Do you think Brian Kemp suppressed voter turnout?

“He essentially bioengineered an electorate that would be essentially with enough white voters and few enough voters of color to elect him.”

Part of me is picturing the island of Dr. Kemp, in which the Republican gubernatorial candidate oversees a production line of genetically engineered Ward and June Cleavers, ready to discreetly move to Georgia and make sure that Stacey Abrams was denied her rightful place as the governor of the state.

And yes, I know she just slipped the prefix “bio-” into a word where it didn’t belong, but if any Fox News host had said this, it would be a meme repeated until the end of time.

Oh, and about that “very sort of open, like brazen voter suppression” that Kemp was practicing by, um, enforcing the laws as secretary of state, consider that only 53,000 ballots were marked as “pending” under the “exact match” law and that a higher-than-average number of voter purges had to do with the fact that a lawsuit that temporarily halted the purges meant two cycles had to be done at once.

And that’s not Reid’s only problem here. She also seems to have had very problematic views on whether or not Abrams was actually leading in the race. (Spoiler alert: she wasn’t.)

“What happened? Stacey Abrams was well ahead in the polls consistently throughout — how did we get here?” Reid said. “I suspect I know the answer, and I suspect it’s going to be unnerving and sort of tragic, but what do you think happened that reversed what had been a pretty consistent polling lead for Stacey Abrams?”

According to RealClearPolitics, Kemp was ahead in the vast majority of the polls. That meant that the current vote in the race — which shows Kemp ahead by only 1.5 percentage points — means that Abrams theoretically over-performed.

Another guest — Columbus, Georgia Mayor Teresa Tomlinson — went further into mendacityville by claiming that Abrams had “pulled ahead” (polls had actually tended toward Kemp at the end) and that the “exact match” rule could leave a substantial number of absentee ballots uncounted (estimates put that “substantial” number at about 1,000 so, nice try).

Reid and her retinue aren’t the only ones to blame an electoral outcome they don’t like on supposed racism.

She may, however, be the only one willing to say that bioengineering caused Kemp to win even though non-existent polls showed him losing.

MSNBC, meanwhile, is probably hoping nature bioengineers more hangovers so that the only people who see this ridiculousness are incredulous conservatives who watch it after the fact.
