Mystery Woman in Shackles Captured on Doorbell Cam Found Safe, But Her Boyfriend Wasn't

Share

Who hasn’t found themselves haunted by the idea that a much darker story lurks just behind the things we think of as ordinary?

It’s such a startling idea that it’s no wonder it sticks in our minds. And it’s no wonder that a recent video originating from Montgomery, Texas, on August 24 went viral as well.

According to WPLG, the film came from a residential security camera. It showed a harried-looking, barefoot woman ringing a doorbell during the wee hours.

She ran away before anyone could answer the door. But there was something more troubling than her frightened aspect and lack of shoes.

What was it? She had a broken restraint around her right wrist. The internet immediately exploded with speculation.

Some insisted that the woman was a missing person.

However, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department started investigating and determined that she wasn’t.

USA Today reported that the truth was something far more ordinary — and far, far more tragic.

The 32-year-old woman had been living with her boyfriend, and he wasn’t what you’d call a good guy. The man was abusing her terribly.

Information started trickling in as the investigation proceeded, and the sheriff’s department got a call saying to check on an individual who was making “suicidal comments.”

It turned out to be none other than the abuser. Inside Edition released a law-enforcement statement that read, “When deputies arrived on scene, they could not get an answer at the door and due to the circumstances made forced entry into the home.”

They found a 49-year-old man dead inside from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Authorities were also able to identify and find his girlfriend safe.

Due to the nature of the crime, the woman’s name has not been released. But we can give thanks that she is now safe with her family.
