NASCAR Driver Kyle Busch & Wife Tearfully Share News About Recent Miscarriage
Loss is never easy, and for NASCAR driver Kyle Busch and his wife Samantha, it has been particularly heartbreaking.
After multiple rounds of fertility treatments, the pair announced on Thanksgiving that they were expecting a little girl. A new baby would expand their family and give their 3-year-old son Brexton Locke a sibling, according to People.
The family was excited about the prospect of having the little one arrive, and Samantha even made a Christmas card complete with Brexton in a big brother shirt.
Sadly, just eight short days after announcing that they were going to have a baby, Busch and his wife announced devastating news.
Samantha shared a tearful video on Instagram telling their fans that they had lost the baby due to a miscarriage.
The heartbreaking moment came on Nov. 27, as Samantha and Busch were preparing to travel to Las Vegas for the Cup Series Award Banquet.
Samantha had gone about her day as normal. When she was spending some time playing with Brexton, she suddenly felt a gush of blood and knew instantly that something was very wrong.
“I didn’t want to scare Brexton so I told him that Mommy had cut her finger and to go get Daddy,” Samantha told People.
Samantha immediately went to the doctor, where an ultrasound provided some relief. The baby was still there.
But Samantha began to worry as any expectant mother would. She knew deep down she was going to lose the baby and decided to record a video.
“I went to our bedroom where it was quiet and I just turned the camera on myself and recorded a message telling everyone we had lost the baby,” she told People. “It was awful.”
As Samantha and Kyle readied themselves to head to Las Vegas on Nov. 29, they got the painful news that they had indeed lost the baby.
“Kyle and I talked about it and we really didn’t want to take anything away from [series Champion] Joey [Logano] and his wife Brittany,” Samantha told People. “That evening wasn’t about us.”
“It was really tough because we walked the red carpet that night and kept on having people congratulate us about the baby,” Busch told People. “We just faked a smile and said thanks.”
On Nov. 30, the couple broke the sad news to the public. Despite the kind words of sympathy from friends and fans, it still wasn’t easy for them.
“All of this certainly tests your faith,” Busch told People. “There is just this endless list of questions as to [the] whys and hows. Inside, you know things happen for a reason, but it’s so hard.”
Even after their loss, Busch and Samantha have remained dedicated to sharing their story and working with the Bundle of Joy Fund that helps couples with the expense of fertility treatments.
The painful experience of losing their little girl was not easy, and Samantha and Busch have hard the difficult job of explaining the loss to their son.
“When Brexton asks, I tell him that his baby sister is in heaven,” Samantha told People. “And sometimes, the pain is just too much. I was carrying her and I lost her, and yes, in a way it feels like a personal failure.”
With two embryos left, the couple has said they need some time before they try again.
“I’m not emotionally ready,” Samantha told People. “There are days when I still cry. But trust me when I say this is not the end of our story.”
