NBA Champion Nick Young Arrested in Hollywood After Refusing to Cooperate With Police
NBA free-agent Nick Young was arrested in Hollywood late Friday after what started out as a routine traffic violation.
Officer Mike Lopez said Young didn’t obey the officers after the stop, became upset and caused a delay. He was arrested for delaying an investigation, which is a misdemeanor.
TMZ posted two videos of the arrest, one of which shows Young being handcuffed after being pulled over.

Another video contains explicit language of audio of the arrest. As Young is being arrested after exiting his vehicle, he shouts at the person recording, “Am I resisting? Am I resisting?”
The person recording the video responds “No” to Young’s questions. Then another person off camera, for some reason, shouts “Shoot him” at the cops arresting Young.
That person is then cursed out by the one recording the video. That full video can be viewed here and contains profanity.
Young was booked just before midnight on Friday and released on $10,000 bail a few hours later. He has a court date scheduled for Sep. 19.
A native of Los Angeles, Young lives there in the offseason and played for the Lakers from 2013-17. He has not publicly commented on the arrest.
The Associated Press reached out to his agent, Mark Bartelstein, who also has not commented on the incident.
Young played in 80 games with the Golden State Warriors last season and averaged 7.3 points per game as a role player.
He played in another 20 playoff games which is more than he played in through his first 10 NBA seasons combined. Young won the first championship of his career as the Warriors swept the Cavs in the Finals.
Young was playing on a one-year contract and isn’t expected to return to Golden State. The Warriors already have 14 players under contract with many other players on non-guaranteed deals that will battle out for the 15th and final roster spot.
The Rockets reportedly had some interest in Young earlier this summer, but that was before they signed Carmelo Anthony. Other teams have shown interest as well, though Young hasn’t made any known free agent visits.

Young has a career scoring average of 11.4 PPG. In addition to the Warriors and Lakers, he has also played for the 76ers, Clippers and Wizards.
