NBA Player Carries Woman's Baby Down 40+ Stories After Bomb Scare in Building
Threats on people’s lives have been taken more seriously in recent times due to the tragic number of shootings at schools, places of worship and at public events in general.
On Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018, an emailed bomb scare prompted many to evacuate libraries, schools, hospitals and other businesses all over the United States according to The New York Times.
The threat was linked to a ransom — a request for $20,000, apparently. In Charlotte, North Carolina, one high rise apartment building evacuated due to the threat.
Frank Kaminsky, power forward for the Charlotte Hornets, just so happened to be a resident in the building. And it’s a good thing, too.
According to The Charlotte Observer, Kaminsky was hanging out in his apartment when the fire alarm went off.
When he was told to evacuate along with the others in the building, the almost 7-foot-tall basketball star followed suit.
“I had to walk down 49 stories because they shut off the elevators,” he told The Observer. “Instead of grabbing my keys and my wallet, I grabbed a box of Cheez-Its for the long journey down.”
But those Cheez-Its were not the only thing he carried. Kaminsky explained how he came across a struggling mom a few flights down.
“There was a lady with a baby and a dog and a couple of other things she had to carry, so I just helped her carry the baby,” he shared.

But Kaminsky insists he’s no hero, despite what he’s being called in the news. “I’m just a good Samaritan, not a hero,” he told Observer.
Thankfully, the threat ended up being a false alarm. The residents waited down on the street level until they were cleared to return to their homes and use the elevators again.
“I’m not walking back up 49 floors. That’s just not a thing that’s going to happen,” Kaminsky said. It seems that even strong and swift athletes need a break every now and again.
His eventual break was certainly well deserved it seems. No doubt the mother was truly grateful for the good Samaritan — a.k.a. basketball hero — in the stairwell.
