NY Giants Reportedly Looking To Patriots For Next Head Coach
If you want to beat the best, you might as well steal from the best.
The New York Giants have officially sought permission to interview Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and defensive coordinator Matt Patricia during New England’s bye week of the NFL playoffs.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed the request Monday morning.
Giants now have submitted requests to interview Patriots’ DC Matt Patricia and OC Josh McDaniels for their HC job, per source. This could be Patricia’s landing spot.

McDaniels lasted less than two seasons in his first head coaching job with Denver, but has turned down head coaching opportunities over the past couple of years after having interviews with the Jaguars, Chargers and 49ers.
Listening to NFL insiders, there’s no doubt that he’s a hot commodity again.

Patricia, who last season led the NFL’s top defense, is another name that could be leaving the Super Bowl champs.
In addition to New York, the defensive coordinator is likely to get strong consideration in Detroit, with former New England executive Bob Quinn serving as general manager.

The Patriots’ defense got off to a slow start this season, but hasn’t allowed more than 24 points in the past 12 weeks, after giving up more than 24 in three of its first four games.
One potential strike against Patricia came after last year’s Super Bowl. When New England returned home, Patricia was wearing a shirt depicting NFL commissioner Roger Goodell as a clown.
Any team wanting to interview McDaniels and Patricia (or any member of Pittsburgh, Philadelphia or Minnesota’s coaching staff) must do so this week, as those teams are off. After that, potential hiring teams would have to wait a coach’s current team to be eliminated from the playoffs.
