Patriots player just got busted for allegedly trying to bring drugs into Costa Rica
New England Patriots safety Duron Harmon was arrested in Costa Rica on Friday for allegedly trying to bring drugs into the country.
Harmon was nabbed by authorities at Juan Santamaria International Airport in San Jose with 58 grams of marijuana hidden inside a beverage in a suitcase, according to multiple reports.
“This involved a professional NFL player, who tried to come into the country carrying marijuana. We (have) sent (him) back to U.S. territory. It is important to highlight the work of different police bodies, who carry out important operations in different areas of the country,” said Irving Malespín, director of Costa Rica’s Fiscal Control Police, according to The Costa Rica Star.
“We want to prevent undesirable people from entering the country.”
Malespín added that police were conducting routine checks of flights from the United States, as many Americans visit the country for spring break.
The Star said police found the marijuana inside a can of iced tea, and that Harmon “was also carrying three pipes with cannabis oil, a THC candy and four glass containers with compressed marijuana that weighed 4.3 grams.”
Harmon, 27, was temporarily detained and then sent back to the U.S.
“We are aware of the situation involving Duron Harmon Friday night in Costa Rica,” a Patriots spokesperson told the Boston Herald.
“He has since returned to the U.S. and we are seeking to gain more information. At this time, we have no further update,” the statement added.
Harmon was a third-round pick out of Rutgers in 2013.
He led the team last season with four interceptions, including one that sealed a 27-24 Week 15 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He also picked off Eagles quarterback Nick Foles in the Patriots 41-33 loss to the Eagles in Super Bowl LII.
The safety signed a 4-year contract extension last offseason worth a maximum of $20 million.
In light of his recent arrest, though, he could face disciplinary action by the league.
