People Keep Scattering Ashes at Disney Theme Parks, Custodians Have Code Name for Cleanup
Urban legends are fun to talk about, especially when they’re almost too crazy to be true. And when they are confirmed as fact rather than fiction? Even better!
One urban legend has been circulating for years and it has to do with Disney Parks being chosen as the final resting place for human remains.
An in-depth article from the The Wall Street Journal recently confirmed that ashes have been spread at Disney Parks on more than one occasion.
In fact, according to custodial Cast Members, this sort of thing happens more frequently than you think. At least once a month, custodians told The Wall Street Journal.
The secret code when something like this happens is “Code HEPA.” This lets custodial Cast Members know they’ll need a special sort of vacuum that can clean up the fine ashes.
“The Haunted Mansion probably has so much human ashes in it that it’s not even funny,” a custodian told The Wall Street Journal.
A number of Disney-goers have come forward, admitting to spreading their loved ones’ remains at multiple locations inside the parks.
Common places include attractions, flower beds and lawns. “This type of behavior is strictly prohibited and unlawful,” a spokesperson explained to The Wall Street Journal. “Guests who attempt to do so will be escorted off property.”
Still, the illegality of the spreading of ashes hasn’t seemed to stop people from trying it. One should note that not even Walt Disney’s ashes are located inside “The Happiest Place on Earth.”
According to Biography.com, Disney’s ashes are located at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Los Angeles. It just goes to show that not even the main man himself would have thought to cross this line.
Have you heard of people spreading ashes at Disney Parks? Do you think it should be off limits?

Either way, it’s still illegal and you could risk getting kicked out of the park. For those who have gotten away with it, they shared they remember their loved ones by returning to the parks time and time again.
Next time you visit a Disney theme park, pay attention to what happens when an attraction shuts down. If you hear the phrase “technical difficulties,” that might be your clue that someone has spread human remains once again.
