PGA Tour Player Gives Caddie an Incredible Gift After Big Win

Share

Kevin Na earned his third PGA Tour victory this weekend, winning the Charles Schwab Challenge at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.

And he made sure to thank the man who helped him win it — his caddie, Kenny Harms.

Upon winning the title by four strokes over Tony Finau on Sunday, Na gave Harms the restored 1973 Dodge Challenger that he got for winning the tournament.

“That’s your car! Right there. That’s your car!” Na said as he gave Harms a hug after winning the tournament. Na walked away with $1.3 million in prize money.

The tournament’s new sponsor, Charles Schwab, came up with the idea to give the winner a Dodge Challenger.

“We wanted to honor the spirit of the tournament with a one-of-a-kind award that represents the ‘challenger’ spirit of both the champion and our company,” Andy Gill, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Charles Schwab, said before the tournament, reported Golfweek. “With this incredible prize and all of the other fan-friendly events and improvements we have planned, we look forward to bringing this challenger spirit to life.”

The significance of the 1973 vintage is that it’s the year Charles Schwab was incorporated, Golfweek reported. The car is Glacier Blue with a Scottish royal tartan design on the seats, which matches the traditional tartan plaid jacket that goes to the winner.

“By the way, that car is Kenny Harms’ baby! I’m giving it to Kenny,” Na said after the tournament, Golfweek reported.

“I knew about it before I got here. Months in advance they said they’re giving a ’73 Dodge, this old classic that’s, you know, refurbished and it’s beautiful,” he said. “I don’t know how my caddie convinced me to give him the car, but he’s a good salesman I guess. He sold me into it. But I’m more than happy to give it to him. He deserves it.”

Harms gets the car in addition to his winner’s cut.  “Wouldn’t surprise me if he’s the highest percentage paid caddie out here. I’m being dead serious. You can ask him. He won’t tell you the number, but he gets a good check, a lot more than the average,” Na said, reported Golfweek.

“He and I have an 11-year relationship,” Na said. “We are like brothers, and I’m more than happy to give it to him.”

Harms predicted the win before the tournament, posting on his Instagram account Wednesday, “After @kevinna915 wins this week #charlesschwabchallenge This beauty is mine!”

Na, 35, carded a final round 66 to secure the win, his third overall on the PGA tour and first since winning at The Greenbrier last July.
