Photos Show Trump's Newborn 10th Grandchild Winking and Eric and Lara Beaming While Still in Hospital
It’s easy to forget that political figures are human. Both Democrats and Republicans do this: We see a senator or president as a figure on television and rarely stop to remember that they’re people with real lives like the rest of us.
This is particularly true when a politician is especially larger-than-life, such as President Donald Trump. Even conservatives can sometimes lose sight of the fact that the president is a real man with a family.
He’s also a grandfather — and on Monday, the Trump family welcomed his 10th grandchild into the world. Carolina Dorothy was born this week to Eric Trump and his wife Lara, and adorable pictures being shared on social media should remind us all to drop our political squabbling once in a while.
“@LaraLeaTrump and I are excited to welcome Carolina Dorothy Trump into the world. We love you already!” Eric Trump, the 35-year-old son of the president, posted to Instagram on Monday. The post included a photo of the newborn swaddled in a blanket with one eye on her father.

Another photo shared by the family showed Lara smiling proudly as she and Eric posed with newborn Carolina and their other child, Eric Luke Trump, who is one year old and currently goes by his middle name.

“We love you Lara, Eric, (big brother) Luke and sweet Carolina!” Ivanka Trump, the president’s adult daughter and frequent adviser, posted on Twitter.

Eric Trump, of course, became something of a household name during the 2016 election. With his brother Don Jr., the president’s son was a frequent guest on political talk shows and gave a major address at the Republican convention in Cleveland, Ohio.
But that public life has also brought ugliness. Eric Trump has been treated badly by the media and the public at various times, who have directed everything from light mockery to open hatred at him.
Earlier this year, for example, both the Chicago Police Department and the U.S. Secret Service investigated what Eric Trump called a “disgusting act” after he was harassed and allegedly spit on at an upscale bar.
Other members of the extended Trump family have dealt with disturbing incidents, as well.
Last year, Donald Trump Jr.’s family faced an anthrax scare which led to his then-wife Vanessa being hospitalized. She was put on antibiotics as a precaution and spent weeks in fear, although the suspicious powder turned out to be a hoax.
Barron Trump, the president’s 13-year-old son, is another example of somebody being thrown into the political spotlight at a young age. He was viciously attacked online by leftist actor Peter Fonda, among others, and had to endure the Kathy Griffin “bloody mask” scandal.
Hopefully, even the headline-seeking media and anti-Trump figures can set politics aside when it comes to children and see the birth of the president’s 10th grandchild in a positive light. After all, we’re all human, even if it’s easy to forget over all the shouting.
