Police Officer and Waitresses Dance with an Elderly Man Dining Alone at Steak House
Compassion and gentleness are qualities to be treasured. While a soft heart might be perceived as a weak one by some, it is a soft heart that is truly the strongest of all.
In the community of Caldwell, Idaho, soft hearts can be found all around, especially within the walls of Indian Creek Steakhouse.
Founded in 2011 by Jennifer and Dillon Wickel, the steakhouse often showcases live music where fun-loving community members can enjoy a night of good food and fun.
“While in the dining room, guests can enjoy watching their dinner being cooked over a live applewood open flame,” the steakhouse website reads.
“The aroma of the process paired with the unmatched flavor guarantees you’ll leave happy and the opportunity to enjoy the best steak in town!”
Their steak isn’t the only thing that guarantees customers will leave happy. It seems this restaurant also serves up spoonfuls of kindness and extra helpings of above-and-beyond service.
“What happened at work tonight really touched my heart so I really want to share!” employee Sesiley Cerchione wrote on Facebook.
What she shared is truly priceless.
“An older gentleman came in to have some dinner,” she said. “Nothing out of the ordinary, but while he was eating his dinner we noticed tears just streaming down his face.”
Cerchione went on to explain how at first the servers and staff left the man alone. There was live music and dancing that night and the man continued to look heartbroken and alone.
Hours passed and this man continued in his downcast state.
“A few servers went and sat by him to try and make him feel better or more comfortable, and to make sure he was ok, and to see if we could call any body for him,” Cerchione said.
“He seemed confused and didn’t have a place to go,” she explained. “I’m not sure if he had any medical issues or anything, but I do know that he was feeling extremely lonely and broken hearted and he didn’t know where his home was or didn’t have any place to go home to.”
That’s when a server got a hold of local Caldwell police through the non-emergency number. What happened next is truly heartwarming.
“When the police got there they knew him by name. They greeted him like a friend and they sat down and talked with him,” Cerchione wrote.
One of the officers was Sgt. Chelle Sperry. She danced with the man and the priceless moment was even caught on video.
“The employees of Indian Creek Steakhouse were amazing last week,” Sgt. Sperry shared on Caldwell Police Department’s Facebook page.
“It didn’t cost them money, just a little time. Time to sit with him, dance with him, and contact the police to help him. His tears of loneliness turned into tears of joy. Thank you for caring. We can’t always solve everyone’s problems, but kindness goes a long ways. Proud of you guys!!”
Cerchione said that the servers also danced with this gentleman.
“The rest of the night the waitresses took turns dancing with him and he laughed and sang and just simply had a good time,” she wrote.
“It made me so grateful to live in a community, and to work in a place so welcoming and filled with people who care so much. That man may have had a horrible day, but no one was going to let him have a horrible night.”
Do you live in a community that takes care of the downcast and brokenhearted? Share the love and offer a kind word or even a dance when you can. You never know what a big difference a single dance will make.
