Yes, the truly captive heart longs to express itself in a way that’s unforgettable. Sometimes it even likes to throw in a few mischievous moments of queasy shock and awe, just for good measure.
Brett Stidham knows a thing or two about being in love at this level. And clearly, he’s almost criminally gifted when it comes to strategic declarations of lifelong adoration.
Exhibit A: an adorable video that’s quickly making the rounds on social media. It involves a courtroom, a bona fide judge, actual wrist restraints and a yellow jumpsuit.
It also involves one fairly freaked-out girlfriend. Her name is Tiffany Allison.
According to Inside Edition, Allison is a probation officer and house arrest coordinator. She works for Justice Network in DeSoto County, Mississippi.
NBC affiliate WMC-TV reports that Allison and Stidham have been dating for roughly two years. By all accounts, he’d certainly proven himself to be a pretty stand-up guy through all that time.
So Allison experienced an alarming gut-punch moment when she encountered her beloved in the courtroom one day. Specifically, Stidham was brought before the judge at Mississippi’s Hernando Municipal Court.
And he didn’t just walk in, he shuffled. That’s because, at the time, Stidham was wearing a full prison jumpsuit and shackles.
Video footage shows Allison glancing around the room anxiously, seeking any sort of explanation. Fortunately, after letting that initial wallop sink in, Stidham was willing to make things oh-so-touchingly clear.
Specifically, he delivered a stirring speech that reduced Allison to immediate tears. Then he dropped to one knee and proposed right there on the spot.
“I’m guilty… of being madly in love with the girl of my dreams,” Stidham solemnly informed the room. “She’s my best friend, and I’ll forever be in love with her.”
Turns out, almost everyone in that courtroom had been in on the big surprise after all.
“Tiffany is really good friends with her supervisor,” Stidham told the Daily Mail. “So I revealed my plan to her, and asked if there was any way she could help.”
And boy, did that lady ever come through. The prosecutors, the officers, the court clerks and even the judge had a hand in helping Stidham pull off his heartwarming prank.
In the end, all Stidham really ended up stealing was Allison’s smitten heart. Now the happy couple is sentenced to a shared lifetime of love.
