Pup Shrieks in Terror When Rescuer Reaches Out to Give Her Love for First Time in Life

Humans and dogs communicate differently. So without knowing the actual signs, it can sometimes be tough to tell when a canine is feeling anxious or afraid.

But make no mistake — animal behavior sites like pethelpful.com and animalwellnessmagazine.com note that stressed, fearful pups tend to exhibit a specific pattern of body language.

The clues can be subtle, but they often involve cowering, trembling, repeated yawning, widened eyes, and/or lip smacking.

Of course, occasionally there are dogs who have endured such horrific human cruelty that their overwhelming fear is on full, heartrending display. Without question, Kayne was one of those canines.

After enduring an early life of endless brutality, this emaciated pooch found himself at Breasta Animal Shelter in Craiova, Romania. Kayne was confined to a cold, cramped kennel with a hard concrete floor.

And whenever someone even tried to approach him, Kayne communicated his dread in no uncertain terms. He shrieked in abject terror.

This agonized reaction was captured on video, and many viewers found the footage incredibly distressing. But those who watch get to witness the amazing moment a guardian angel entered Kayne’s life — and began to transform it completely.

His rescuer’s name is Monica Mitreanu. Her Facebook page suggests a long history of saving neglected, forgotten animals from pain, mistreatment, and euthanasia.

Mitreanu crept toward Kayne in his enclosure, and simply began to pet him very gently. Approaching a frightened dog can be an unsafe move for the typical layperson, but this seasoned shelter worker clearly knew what she was doing.

Initially, Kayne began to screech and squirm uncontrollably. But calmly and patiently, Mitreanu simply continued stroking the quivering pup.

And slowly, gradually, something miraculous happened. Kayne eventually calmed down, and realized that human touch didn’t have to hurt.

Fellow animal rescuer Kerry Wollacott has since posted a Facebook update on Kayne. She assures social media that he was flown to foster care in the United Kingdom, where he went on to find his own adoring family.

But Mitreanu’s intervention remains a powerful reminder that patience and compassion can often change the life of any canine. It can also bring light, reassurance, redemption, and hope to almost any living creature we encounter.
