Rep. Steve Scalise Blasts Dem Leadership for Being 'Noticeably Silent' in Denouncing Violent Speech

Share

U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise knows a thing or two about political violence.

The Louisiana congressman was nearly killed in 2017 when a deranged supporter of Sen Bernie Sanders opened fire on House Republicans at a baseball field in Alexandria, Virginia.

So when Scalise went on “The Ingraham Angle” on Monday to talk about a mock assassination of President Donald Trump depicted at a Democratic political fundraiser over the weekend, what he had to say was worth hearing — especially for the Democrats running for president in 2020.

While acknowledging that the Democrat directly involved — Illinois state Sen. Martin Sandoval — had apologized, Scalise blasted the current crop of Democratic nomination candidates for failing to step up.

“What disappoints me is that you don’t see any kind of outrage from the left,” Scalise told host Laura Ingraham.

“You don’t see any of the presidential candidates on the left, all the many far-left socialists that are fighting to see who’s going to be able to go up against Donald Trump and spewing all this hatred against Donald Trump, you don’t see any of them denouncing it.

“And that’s really where it should start. The leadership at the top of the Democratic Party that has been noticeably silent.

“And I think that’s really the big takeaway from this is that they’re encouraging it, they’re OK with it, and it’s dangerous.

“It needs to stop.”

Do Democrats need to speak out against anti-Trump threats?

Ingraham pointed out the national media has no problem claiming Trump’s rhetoric fuels violence, yet has ignored the many, many times American leftists have alluded to political violence against Trump during his presidency.

Whether it’s B-list comedian Kathy Griffin holding up a severed head that’s supposed to represent Trump, pop star Madonna fantasizing about blowing up the White House, or countless other outrages, liberals are never held to account, she said.

“So who is really encouraging the violence here?” she asked.

It’s been a running theme of the Trump presidency.

Since the day of his inauguration, leftists have gone on occasional violent sprees — the so-called “anti-fascist” outfit known as antifa proves its name is a lie virtually every time it takes the streets. (Real “anti-fascists” don’t devote their time to assaulting journalists.)

Scalise made it a point to denounce potential violence from all points on the political spectrum.

“Wherever it’s coming from. If it’s white supremacists, if it’s far-leftists, it’s wrong either way. You don’t see the left condemning it.

“We on the right condemn it all the time.”

Scalise knows first-hand what inflamed politics can lead to.

It would be nice to see Democratic presidential candidates act like they had an idea, too.
