Report: Dez Bryant Posts, Then Deletes, Public Support for Ex-Chiefs Star in Violent Video
The Kansas City Chiefs released star running back Kareem Hunt on Friday after video of him striking a woman surfaced.
Nearly all of the public reaction has been in support of the Chiefs for acting so quickly and condemning what Hunt did.
But Dez Bryant, who is currently on injured reserve for the Saints, offered support for Hunt in a now-deleted Instagram post. Bryant said he is on “team Kareem.”
“I advise all the future young stars this … stay your course … just because your money get better … it’s doesn’t mean the prettier woman is better,” Bryant wrote.
“Protect yourself because it will only be one side of the story if you ever get into some sh– … save the explanation by knowing what you are after in life. Nobody is perfect. team Kareem.”
Bryant received mostly negative backlash for his post and subsequently deleted it after about 15 minutes.
But he then took to Twitter and defended what he said while making it clear he doesn’t support domestic violence.
I made it clear I don’t support domestic violence.. I believe we should make this issue bigger than the video that’s being surfaced around.. being provoked is a big issue.. especially for stars ..if we don’t learn to help and support others it stays a cycle https://t.co/fKcAgKGiAy

In the Twitter post, Bryant said that stars are often provoked in these types of situations and that they need support in learning how to deal with these instances without violence.
Ray Rice, whose NFL career ended after video surfaced of him striking a woman in a hotel elevator, told NFL.com that the Hunt video can serve as a teaching tool.
“You look back at it and obviously you see some similarities between what happened in my situation,” Rice said. “I’m never going to call myself an expert. I’ve [publicly] discussed the remorse I have for survivors of domestic violence, but knowing what I know now, the top priority is learning that it comes down to those split-second decisions, which come at the most hostile times. And that’s where this could be a teaching tool.”
Hunt is currently without a job and is likely facing more than the six-game suspension that is the baseline for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy, per Ian Rapaport.
But this isn’t the only disciplinary action Hunt could be facing.
Rapaport also reported that the NFL is looking into an incident in which Hunt allegedly punched a man at an Ohio resort last June, and that the NFL is believed to have enough evidence in that case to add to his discipline.
Since penalties for two separate incidents likely wouldn’t be served independently of each other, Hunt may very well sit out the rest of this season and well into next season if a team picks him up.
Since Hunt was released, he is subject to waivers and will learn his fate by Monday at 4 p.m. Eastern. That’s when it will be learned if any team put in a waiver claim for him.
