Minutes After Trump Was Sworn Into Office, Susan Rice Sent Herself an "Unusual Email"
The day was Jan. 20, 2017. Donald Trump was about to be sworn into office, and the peaceful transfer of power was about to take place. So, what did former National Security Advisor Susan Rice do? She sent herself an email.
According to The Daily Caller, Republican Senators Chuck Grassley and Lindsey Graham have recently uncovered what they deem an “usual email” that Rice sent to herself the day of Trump’s inauguration.
The email seems odd due to the “timing and substance of the message,” the two senators explained.
Rice sent the email just after Trump took the oath of office at 12:15 p.m on Jan. 20. It was her last day in office.
The content of the email regards a meeting that took place in the Oval Office on Jan. 5, 2017 between Rice, President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, FBI Director James Comey and Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates.
The meeting was held to discuss the investigation into possible “collusion” between soon-to-be President Donald Trump and Russia.
“On January 5, following a briefing by [Intelligence Community] leadership on Russian hacking during the 2016 Presidential election, President Obama had a brief follow-on conversation with FBI Director Jim Comey and Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates in the Oval Office. Vice President Biden and I were also present,” Rice wrote to herself in the email.
Rice then stated in the email that Obama stressed to the group the need to do things “by the book.”
“The President stressed that he is not asking about, initiating or instructing anything from a law enforcement perspective. He reiterated that our law enforcement team needs to proceed as it normally would by the book,” she wrote.
But here’s the kicker.
Rice also wrote in the email that the group discussed the possibility of withholding classified information from the incoming Trump administration. So much for doing things “by the book.”
“From a national security perspective, however, President Obama said he wants to be sure that, as we engage with the incoming team, we are mindful to ascertain if there is any reason that we cannot share information fully as it relates to Russia,” she wrote.
Rice continued, “The President asked Comey to inform him if anything changes in the next few weeks that should affect how we share classified information with the incoming team. Comey said he would.”
Of course, this email isn’t sitting too well with the Republican senators.
They sent an email last week to Rice with their concerns about her Inauguration Day email. “It strikes us as odd that, among your activities in the final moments on the final day of the Obama administration, you would feel the need to send yourself such an unusual email purporting to document a conversation involving President Obama and his interactions with the FBI regarding the Trump/Russia investigation,” they wrote.
The senators also said they have serious concerns about whether President Obama and his administration actually acted “by the book.” Furthermore, they asked Rice if she was aware of the Page FISA warrant or about the FBI’s handling of the Christopher Steele dossier.
Rice has yet to reply.
Only time will tell exactly why Susan Rice sent this mysterious email. For now, we just have to scratch our heads along with these two senators and ask, “Why?”
