Saquon Barkley fulfills childhood promise to his parents, buys them a house
It’s been a whirlwind couple of months for Saquon Barkley.
Two days before the NFL draft, he and his girlfriend welcomed their first child into the world.
The former Penn State running back was blown away, calling daughter Jada “the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen in my life.”
Then, as perhaps the most-hyped non-quarterback in recent memory, he was selected second overall by the New York Giants.
Now, he’s living up to a promise he made as a youngster — to buy his parents a new home.
Back in April, Barkley announced what he was going to do.
“The first big thing I’m going to buy is my mom a house,” he said before the draft. “My parents are everything to me — and all the sacrifices they’ve made — I wouldn’t be the man I am today without those two — my mom and my father.
“So, definitely going to buy those two a house that they can call home and not have to worry about anything.”
Now he has fulfilled that pledge.
As Barkley wrote, “Something I promised my parents, ever since I was a young kid. Finally be able to achieve that goal is the most amazing feeling. Every kid out there has a dream. Continue to your head down and work your butt off, great things will come along the way.”
It’s not clear exactly where the house is located. It was sold by a real estate agent in Allentown, Pennsylvania, which is a few miles south of Barkley’s hometown of Coplay.
It sure seems that Barkley has everything in order as he gets ready for his first training camp.
At a recent OTA, he made quite the impression on his teammates.
“The way that he handles himself,” Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard told reporters. “He comes into every huddle dapping everybody up and just trying to get us going. That’s not really what you see from a rookie, but he’s been doing a great job out here learning the schemes and bringing energy.”
It doesn’t matter whether you’re a fan of the G-Men, this appears to be one rookie we can all root for.
