Scary shot to head disorients Chiefs' Travis Kelce, knocks him out of game

Just about everything went right for the Kansas City Chiefs as they jumped out to a 21-3 lead over the Titans in their AFC wild-card matchup Saturday.

Except for one injury that could potentially be very costly.

Late in the half, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was hit in the head as he went to the ground after making a catch. Kelce laid motionless for several seconds before teammates tried to help him to his feet.

Kelce got back to his feet but was extremely wobbly and needed to be held up by an offensive lineman.

No flag was thrown on the play despite the clear helmet-to-helmet contact initiated by the Titans defender.

Kelce was taken to the locker room for further evaluation and seemed to be alert as he left the field.

Travis Kelce had a really difficult time getting to his feet after that helmet to helmet hit. Was helped off the field before then running the final 10-15 yards. He’s pumped his fist after watching a completion before going straight to the locker room.

The Chiefs didn’t take long to rule the tight end out with a concussion.

Losing Kelce hurt the Chiefs, as he is a major part of the team’s offense. He had hauled in four catches for 66 yards and a touchdown before the injury.

How is there not a flag on that helmet to helmet on Kelce? You suck, @NFL.

If the Chiefs hold on to beat the Titans, they will need all the firepower they can muster in the next round where they will face either the Steelers or the Patriots.

To add insult to Kelce’s injury, Kansas City blew its 21-3 lead to lose 22-21.
