Scuba Diver's Incredible Relationship with Tiny Fish Named 'Nemo' Will Melt Your Heart
Who says a fish and a human can’t be best friends? While it seems unlikely, one diver has proven it’s quite possible.
The fish has been affectionately named “Nemo,” but this guy has no trouble being found. And no, he’s not looking for Dory, either.
Every time his diver friend visits him in the South Pacific of New Caledonia, the pair reconnects in a way you have to see to believe.
A video taken by award-winning cinematographer, Shawn Heinrichs, shows Nemo bonding with his decade-long friend, Marino.
Marino is a dive master in New Caledonia, according to Heinrichs’ Facebook post. As it turns out, Marino’s profession has landed him to coolest best bud ever.
“Did you know that fish have their own unique personalities and that we can actually form super cool relationships with them?” Heinrichs wrote.
He documented the friendship between Marino and Nemo to show that these creatures “have feelings, feel pain, and can be highly curious and social beings.”
Heinrichs goes on to pose the question: “Who would have guessed that a clownfish could form a personal relationship with a single person and recognize that individual and come out to greet them and play with them everyday?”
According to the video, Marino found his fishy friend when he was still an egg. Now whenever Marino visits him, he waves as he would to a pet and they play games together.
If this sounds too incredible to believe, watch as Marino and Nemo interact. This is truly amazing to witness.
“By showing people what the successful conservation of reef systems looks like, hopefully we can engage wider and more diverse audiences to support conservation initiatives,” Heinrichs notes.
According to Conservation.org, the coral sea in New Caldonia is a protected area and “home of the world’s largest marine park.”
