Security Cam Shows Stranger at Door with Homeowner's Missing Purse
A California family is searching for the good Samaritan who gave them the sweetest of treats after their Halloween celebration went awry.
Like many families around the country, Katrina Brown loves to celebrate Halloween with her husband and children.
The Brown family has a tradition of meeting up with friends at a local park in Petaluma, California, before heading out to trick-or-treat in the neighborhood.
But in the excitement and chaos of herding small, eager children wearing costumes and holding candy bags, Brown forgot something really important at the park.
“In the craziness, I just left my purse in the playground, literally in the sand,” Brown told the Petaluma Argus-Courier.
Brown recalled mistaking her husband’s “Where’s Waldo” costume, with glasses printed on the front, for the straps of her purse.
It was hours before Brown realized Waldo didn’t have her purse, so she rushed back to the park in hopes she might find it.
But the purse was long-gone, and a disappointed Brown went home to begin the lengthy process of canceling all her bank cards and filing a police report.
Later that same evening, Brown and her husband decided to view their security camera footage, out of curiosity, to see if anyone had stopped by their house to trick-or-treat.
It turned out, someone did stop by — a mystery man who was clutching Brown’s purse in his hands. He rang the doorbell and when nobody answered, he tucked the purse safely inside the mailbox.
Relief surely flooded through her veins as Brown rushed outside to retrieve her purse, finding everything as it was.
Brown was left stunned and deeply moved that someone would have the honesty and take the time to personally return her purse to her doorstep, all items intact.
She posted about the incident on social media with the hopes that somebody will come forward as the good Samaritan in the video.
After he delivered the sweetest and most unexpected of treats, Brown simply wants a chance to thank the man for his Halloween good deed.
“It was just really cool that we got it back,” Brown said. “We haven’t figured out who he is yet.”
It’s a Halloween mystery that has yet to be solved, but has left this California family with warmed, thankful hearts.
