Socialist Citizens Now Forced To Eat Rotten Food
Ah, socialism. The far-left politics that have millennials like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez so enamored certainly seem ideal from a distance … that is, if you have no understanding of human nature or history.
Get a bit closer to the real-life instances of socialism, however, and it begins to stink. Literally.
In the socialist paradise of Venezuela, residents have now resorted to eating actual rotting meat to fend off starvation. Even though the country has vast natural resources, liberal policies have citizens holding their noses and risking grave illness just to put something on the table.
“In a city once called the Saudi Arabia of Venezuela for its vast oil wealth, residents of Maracaibo now line up to buy spoiled meat as refrigerators fail amid nine months of rolling power outages that recently got worse,” the Associated Press reported last week.
“Some people fall ill eating the rotten beef, but at bargain prices, it’s the only way they can afford protein as the country’s crisis hits bottom,” the report continued. “Basic services like running water and electricity have become luxuries.”
Naturally, President Nicolas Maduro is pointing a finger at the United States for his country’s downfall. It couldn’t possibly be that socialism has failed everywhere it has been tried — no.
Capitalism is to blame for socialist Venezuela’s hellish conditions, Maduro insists, because the U.S. has stolen his nation’s wealth and electricity. Somehow.
“For the last nine months Maracaibo’s residents have endured rolling blackouts,” the AP explained. “Things turned dire Aug. 10 when a fire destroyed a main powerline supplying the city of 1.5 million people.”
In first-world nations, a broken power line isn’t the end of the world. Utility workers scramble to fix it, and in a few days maximum, everything is back to normal.
It turns out that utility workers like being paid, however, which is a problem in a socialist nation that has condemned capitalism and seen shocking hyperinflation of its currency as a result.
“Refrigeration units fell idle and meat began turning. At least four butcher shops have been selling spoiled meat in Las Pulgas, Maracaibo’s central market,” the AP said.
“Of course they eat the meat — thanks to Maduro,” explained Johel Prieto, a Venezuelan butcher. “The food of the poor is rotten food.”
Think about that for a moment. Here in the United States — the country that so many liberals seem to hate and condemn — one of the biggest health problems facing the poor is obesity. Yes, America’s poor have too much to eat.
Meanwhile, socialist Venezuela feeds its poor rotten food not fit for dogs.
“I was afraid that they would get sick because they are small,” said another Venezuelan who fed rotten meat to his three young boys. “But only the little one got diarrhea and threw up.”
Small victories.
It really isn’t surprising that Venezuela under socialism has become a total mess. What is shocking is the number of Americans who eagerly embrace the same far-left policies.
A recent poll showed that half of young people in the United States would rather live in a communist or socialist country.
That’s terrifying — and a prime example of why teaching the realities of those failed systems is so important. Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it … and Venezuela should be a wake-up call to every American today.
