Tom Seaver will be remembered as one of the greatest players in Mets history, but did you know that Tom Seaver was on the Boston Red Sox during the historic 1986 World Series against the Mets? That year, the 41-year-old appeared in 16 games for the Red Sox during his twentieth and final season. Unfortunately, a knee injury prevented him from playing in that series and he did not re-sign with Boston. He did rejoin the Mets in 1987 but decided to retire after three poor performances in exhibition games, saying “I’ve used up all the competitive pitches in my arm!”
