The story of The Simpsons star Phil Hartman’s death is a true tear jerker. Phil and his wife Brynn were at a friends house one night, and had a heated argument over Brynn’s drug abuse. When they went home, Phil went to bed, while Brynn stayed up to take cocaine and drink. What came next is still horrifying 20 years later.

Around 3 a.m. Brynn went to their bedroom and shot Phil twice in the head, killing him instantly. She then went to a friends house and admitted to murdering her husband. When the police came to her friends Brynn locked herself in the bathroom, then committed suicide. The next season of The Simpsons explained that Phil’s character, Bill McNeal, died from a heart attack. Phil was originally suppose to voice Futurama character Zapp Branigan, but the role was recast with Billy West voicing him instead.
