Stepdad Bursts into Tears When 13-Year-Old Daughter Asks Him To Adopt Her with Gift
There is nothing on this earth as important as family. Whether that family is by blood or by choice, they’re the ones who will love you through and through.
Blended families are more common than ever these days. While divorce and loss of loved ones are heartbreaking, new family members give us a reason to love and hope again.
When Alexa Figueroa was almost 1 year old, her birth father, Eddie, was killed. For Alexa and her mom, Mia, it made that day a sad one each year.
But they also found joy again. One year after Eddie’s death, Mia met Gus Roman, who immediately began raising Alexa as his own.
Mia and Gus ended up getting married. They had a son named Noah. The family of four was complete, aside from one detail.
Gus had never officially adopted Alexa. He wanted it to be her choice and, no matter what, he always saw her as his daughter.
When Father’s Day came around in June, the day happened to fall on the anniversary of Eddie’s death.
Alexa and her mother discussed a way to bring brighter memories to that sad day. The two decided it was finally time for Gus to adopt the 13-year-old.
Hesitant at first, Alexa didn’t want to forget her biological father. Her brother Noah had been asking her to change her last name to match theirs.
Still, Alexa was unsure. But Mia reassured her daughter that there was a way to honor both of her dads.
“I said no matter what her last name was,” Mia shared, “Eddie would always be her dad and so would Gus, and explained how lucky she was to have two dads that loved her so much. It was as if a lightbulb went on — she jumped up and said, ‘Well let’s do this then!’”
They came up with a plan to surprise Gus on Father’s Day. Alexa handed him a photo book filled with their memories.
But when he reached the last page, the dad of two began to tear up. Watch as they share this sweet moment together.
Alexa giggled as her dad tried to hide his emotions. No wonder he started tearing up. The message on the last page would make anyone weep.
“Hey Dad! 10 years seems long enough don’t ya think?! Wanna adopt me?” the page said.
Gus didn’t need a second to think about his response. “Of course,” he said. What a sweet little family.
Alexa plans to hyphenate her last name, so she can keep a piece of both her dads. The memory of Eddie will live on, while Alexa makes Gus official.
Though paper may change Alexa’s last name, I’d say Gus has been official for years. This young lady is truly blessed to be surrounded by so much love.
