Social Media Explodes After Steve Harvey Rolls Out in Ridiculous New Year's Outfit

Share

It’s often been said that people watch auto racing for the car wrecks. In a metaphorical sense, the same thing applies to New Year’s Eve network broadcasts.

This year was set up to be a relatively wreck-free evening. Kathy Griffin had taken herself out of the running due to a bloody accident. Mariah Carey — who infamously went over the high side last year — managed to make a decent accounting of herself this time around, aside from a bizarre remark involving hot tea. And, after his 2016 shenanigans, one assumes CNN has the breathalyzer trained on Don Lemon hourly between Dec. 30 and Jan. 2.

Thankfully, America had Steve Harvey to keep them warm with schadenfreude — and he didn’t even have to announce the wrong winner this time.

Harvey was the host of Fox’s New Year’s Eve celebrations in Times Square. At first glance, at least to this writer, this seems a bit better than spending the night with Ryan Seacrest over on ABC or whatever drunk celebrities/CNN staffers Anderson Cooper managed to dredge up to ring in 2018.

And, in fact, Harvey seems to have acquitted himself relatively decently from the hosting ability standpoint. His sartorial choices, however, left quite a bit to be desired.

Election Coverage 2024

Yes, someone not only went out in public wearing that, that someone was Steve Harvey and he did it on one of the biggest telecasts of the year.

It didn’t take long for social media to explode with comparisons to who (or what) people thought Steve Harvey looked like.

I was personally going to go with footage from the unreleased film “Dolemite Visits Alaska”, but the “Inspector Gadget” and “Spy vs. Spy” references are also top-notch.

While CNN may have stolen Steve Harvey’s trainwreck thunder a bit with their excursion onto a marijuana party bus (yes, seriously) during their New Year’s Eve coverage, not even the stoner contingent could fully excise the cartoonishness of Steve Harvey’s outfit.

Sorry, Steve. You may have had the hosting chops, but you should look in a new direction for a wardrobe director if they bring you back next year.
