Sylvester Stallone breaks the internet... poses for iconic 'Rocky' photo
To put it into its proper perspective, Friday in Philadelphia was like if Mona Lisa posed with … well, the Mona Lisa.
Or if Lady Liberty swam out to the New York Harbor to pose with her own statue.
Like if Benjamin Franklin came to ring the Liberty Bell.
This was Rocky Balboa returning to the city where he first uttered “Yo Adrian” more than 30 years ago.
Truth be told, the iconic “Rocky” statue wasn’t built until the film “Rocky III,” but you get the point.
Sylvester Stallone (aka Rocky Balboa) — who’s in town working on the latest installment of the series, titled “Creed II” — showed up at the Rocky statue Friday.
To say it was a spectacular homecoming would be an understatement.
THE REAL DEAL! While in town filming ‘Creed 2’, Sylvester Stallone stopped by to check out the Rocky Statue at the base of the Art Museum steps. pic.twitter.com/FrLXNH84wS

The 71-year-old actor’s appearance was a shock to most Philadelphians, who were stunned to see art imitating life (or perhaps life imitating art?).
We always enjoy welcoming Sylvester Stallone back to Philadelphia! Sly is still punching — and was very generous with his time with all the fans at the Rocky statue today! pic.twitter.com/EeahSJ1hKn

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney joined in on the fun, and Stallone spent quite a while mingling with fans and signing autographs.
Details of the “Creed II” plot are still somewhat secret, although we do know that Michael B. Jordan’s character, Adonis Johnson (son of the late Apollo Creed) will try to avenge his father’s death at the hand of Ivan Drago by fighting Drago’s son.
As Phillymag.com points out, with such a strong Philadelphia flavor, we might see famed ring announcer Michael Buffer (“Let’s get ready to ruuuuuummmmmbbbbbllllleee!”), who attended nearby Abington High School.
Could you imagine driving in downtown Philly and seeing the “Italian Stallion” in the flesh?

As Rocky said in “Rocky V,” “As long as this statue’s here, birds will have a place to sit.”
“Creed II” is scheduled to be released on Christmas Day.
