A mysterious explosion rocked Laurel, Nebraska, just after 3 a.m. Thursday, killing four and spawning a Nebraska State Patrol investigation

'I just remember some of our firefighters standing there shooting so much water at that electric vehicle, and it not going out.'

'Officials with the Elbert County Road Department brought in an excavator to dig down the required six feet,' local media reported.

'There is no risk to the power grid, and power is still being generated from the powerhouse,' the agency said.

Before the fire broke out, there were reports of an unconfirmed explosion at the natural gas fractionation facility.

A natural gas pipeline exploded southwest of Houston on Thursday, sending a pillar of flame high into the sky.

“It’s sad,” Elberton Granite Association Vice President Chris Kubas said. “Not just for Elberton and Elbert County, but I’m sad for the United States and the world.”

The gas was also used by Russian-backed Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, who deployed it against civilians and anti-regime rebels.

Given the amount of liquefied natural gas this plant produces, the blast does real damage to the world's supply.
