A Connecticut state legislator is dead after a fatal wrong-way highway collision the night of his swearing-in.

Officer Christopher Davis was found unresponsive in his home Saturday night. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Cunningham was one of three astronauts aboard the 1968 Apollo 7 mission, an 11-day spaceflight that paved the way for the moon landing.

The young man died "due to complications from injuries sustained playing basketball," according to his obituary.

Many paid tribute to him on social media, with one person saying he was "a champion for those who expect better of our state and our nation."

ABC News President Kim Godwin announced the executive producer's death Saturday in a memo to network employees.

He was the only MLB pitcher to toss a perfect game against the team that won the championship that same year.
