A Texas rancher has come out in support of an Arizona rancher accused of murder, saying he acted in self defense.

"The suspect was declared deceased at the scene," the local police department said in a statement. The investigation is ongoing.

"If it were not for her foresight to arm herself, the outcome could have been much graver," the sheriff said.

According to police, a female hotel clerk was minding her own business when a man wielding a rifle approached her and demanded money.
