Story Behind This Teacher's Gift of Lucky Charm Marshmallows Will Melt Your Heart
Sometimes during the holidays, it is the smallest gifts that count the most. Those who do not have much are willing to share the few small things that they do have in order to put a smile on another person’s face.
Teacher Rachel Uretsky-Pratt got one such generous gift from a student and it warmed her heart, according to Upworthy.
As her class prepared for winter break, she received many gracious gifts from her students.
There were chocolates, jewelry and handwritten notes, but one gift really stood out from the rest just for its simplicity and thoughtfulness.
One of her students didn’t have a lot to give this holiday season, but she still wanted to show their teacher that she was special in their own way.
This student took the time and care to share the one thing that she had to give — their breakfast cereal.
The sentiment of the gift meant more to Uretsky-Pratt than any other gift she received as she knew the challenges that this student went through to give it to her.
Not only did the student meticulously pick out the Lucky Charms marshmallows from their cereal with painstaking accuracy, but she did it so neatly and cautiously using a spork, straw and napkin to get the gift just right.
Uretsky-Pratt wrote about this special gift from her student on Facebook.
She wrote, “Be grateful for what you have, and what others give you. It all truly comes from the deepest parts of their hearts.”
The reason the Lucky Charms marshmallows were so special to Uretsky-Pratt is that all the students at her school receive free or reduced lunches, which also includes breakfast.
The student just wanted to give her teacher a gift, and this was the one thing that she had to give.
“This kiddo wanted to get my something so badly but had nothing to give,” Uretsky-Pratt said.
“So rather than give me nothing, this student opened up her free breakfast cereal this morning, took the packaging of her spork, straw, and napkin, and finally took the time to take every marshmallow out of her cereal to put in a bag — for me.”
While the gift of Lucky Charms marshmallows might not be the most creative or expensive gift to give, this student’s heart was certainly in the right place.
This is one gift that Uretsky-Pratt will remember for a long time as there is nothing more memorable than a student wanting to give away what little they have.
