Teen Goes Missing 6 Days After Dad Murdered in Front of Him. 1 Year Later, Finally Found
In 2017, Robert Caldwell of Beavercreek, Ohio, was shot and killed by his ex-wife, Tawney Caldwell. Reports say 6 people were indicted at the time in relation to the murder case.
Fox 45 Now reported that Caldwell had made a 911 call just weeks before his death because he believed he was being stalked.
It turned out his instincts were correct, and sadly his life was taken. At the time of the tragic incident, Caldwell’s family believed the murder was in relation to a custody battle between Robert and Tawney.
What is perhaps most heartbreaking about this case is that this man was murdered in front of his own children.
One of those children, 14-year-old Jacob Lee Caldwell, went missing just days after his father was killed.
The Sugarcreek Township Police reported the teen’s last known location was outside a local Walmart on Aug. 21, 2017, according to WDTN 2 News.
Jacob’s uncle Tyler Caldwell told the local news station that the young man’s mother, Tawney, did not help search for her son.
The search has been going for more than a year. “Our top priority, one is getting Jacob home,” Tyler said.
The search for the teen recently received a boost when 10 digital billboards were donated by The Outdoor Advertising Association of America.
Sugarcreek Township Police chief Mike Brown told WHIO TV 7 that he hoped the billboards would aid in their efforts to bring the boy home.
Candace Caldwell, Jacob’s step-mother, told the outlet about the pain she felt over Jacob’s separation from his other siblings.
“It tears me apart to know they’re building relationships with their other siblings,” she said. “And Jacob’s not here to do that, we all love him so much.”
Although there is still a long road ahead for the family in the aftermath of Robert’s death, a bittersweet victory has occurred.
Shortly after the billboards featured Jacob’s face all over the Dayton and Cincinnati areas, he was found.
The Cincinnati FBI tweeted their thanks to the local community.”Thank you to @MissingKids and @YourOAAA… Cases like this take community involvement to help push the investigation forward …”
Another tweet by Clancy Burke of Fox 45 Now reported that Jacob is healthy and safe. The tweet gave an update as to his location as well.
“Jacob Caldwell was found in basement of a Miami Twsp home,” Burke reported. “4 adults lived there who were not related to Jacob.”
While some could speculate the teen might have been abducted, a more recent tweet from Burke reported that was simply not the case.
“Sugarcreek Twsp police chief said Jacob wasn’t abducted,” Burke shared. “But he was encouraged to run away by family members.”
More updates are sure to follow as police further investigate the situation. For now, it’s a relief to know Jacob is back with his family. Our prayers and thoughts are with them and we share in their joy over finding the missing teen.
