Teen Horrified When He Spots Baby in Diaper Standing on Roof Alone, Video Captures Heroic Rescue

Share

There are two kinds of people in the world: Those who run from trouble when they see it, and those who run into it.

As much as I like to think I’d be the heroic type who rescues a person from a burning building, I’m not sure what I’d do in an extreme situation. It’s one thing to mull a situation over in your head and another entirely to act coolly and calmly when the situation requires it.

One teen, though, has shown that he has the right stuff when it comes to helping others. Canadian resident Khalid Tabateb is no stranger to trouble.

The Hamilton Spectator reported that 18-year-old Tabateb and his family are Syrian refugees, and while they lived in that war-torn nation, the young man exhibited exceptional bravery.

When he was only 12, soldiers loosed a hail of gunfire at the apartment complex where his family lived, and the unthinkable happened: A toddler got shot in the leg.

Instead of freezing at the awful sight, Tabateb scooped up the child and found his parents, who were able to get him to the hospital. Now on August 8, he showed his bravery once again.

According to Global News, Tabateb was driving with his father through Hamilton, Ontario, when he saw a heart-stopping thing: There was a baby clad only in a diaper standing on the roof of a row house.

The first thing that flashed through Tabateb’s mind was a recent news report about a child from Corktown, Toronto, who’d fallen from a sixth-story window a mere month before. The little one hadn’t made it.

“I saw him on the roof and (thought), ‘I’m going to help him,’” Tabateb told CTV News. So the teen sprang into action.

“I knocked (on) the door,” he said. “Nobody answered to me, so I broke the window.”

It turned out that the child’s mother had taken a nap. She was entirely unaware of what her child was doing.

As Tabateb charged into the row house, he ran into a howling woman who pointed him upstairs. He then barged into the apartment.

Tabateb managed to get into the child’s room and reach through the open window. “I didn’t want to scare him, you know?” he stated.

“He was scared. He looked down like he was scared.”

Police later determined that the boy had squeezed through the open window under his own power. How? It didn’t have a screen on it.

“No one seemed to realize the baby was outside,” Tabateb’s sister, Farah, said. “He saved his life.”

“I’m not a hero,” Tabateb said. “I’m happy he’s alive.”
