Teen Opens Care Package From Best Friend States Away, Has No Clue She's Standing Feet Away
Think back to your early childhood. What are some of your most cherished memories?
Maybe they include summer vacations, playing outside, climbing trees, riding bikes, attending birthday parties, or buying treats with your allowance money. And if you’re like many people, they probably feature a best friend.
In his timeless novella “The Body” — later adapted into the popular coming-of-age film “Stand By Me” — author Steven King includes an eloquent final line that has stayed with readers across generations. “I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was 12,” he says, wistfully adding, “does anyone?”
That line likely rings true because the best friends we have when we’re young shape us as human beings. In one way or another, we carry them with us throughout our lives.
That’s probably why a recent social media video is stirring up nostalgic memories for so many viewers. In just a little over a minute, it perfectly illustrates this enduring connection.
Like many best friends, Carley Odneal and Claire Woods share a bond that transcends distance. The two have created a website, Instagram presence, and YouTube channel to celebrate their camaraderie.
One YouTube video, in particular, has earned ongoing attention. It shows what happened after Carley moved far away — then arranged a sweet surprise for her BFF.
Carley explains that she set up a special scavenger hunt for Claire. The short video snippet reveals what occurred at the conclusion of the game.
Claire is shown sitting alone on a bench. She’s unpacking the contents of a bright blue bag, which include some sort of illustrated journal that instantly catches her eye.
Meanwhile, unbeknownst to Claire, Carley has crept up right behind her. The clever friend stands there silently, waiting to be discovered.
Claire appears quite moved by the journal, which is evidently from Carley. “If you want to say something to her, say something,” suggests the unidentified girl filming the proceedings.
As Claire begins to speak, the girl quickly adds, “You know what, tell her yourself!” That’s when Claire turns around and realizes her bestie has been right there all along.
As the two embrace, Claire starts to sob uncontrollably. It’s the kind of reaction we normally reserve for loved ones, or siblings, or soulmates.
In the end, after all, best friends can represent each one of these things. And clearly, no matter how much time or distance may come between Carley and Claire, these two will be close friends for life.
