Check Out the Fake McDonald's Poster that Was So Funny It Got the Teens Who Made It on Ellen

Share

We’ve all seen those heartwarming pictures hanging in McDonald’s of unassuming customers who are enjoying some fries or a frosty drink. But, there seems to be a limitation of diversity in these shots, until recently.

A couple of friends thought that Asians are unrepresented in the world today, including the decor at their local McDonald’s. Jevh and Christian decided to take the matter into their own hands.

Noticing a blank wall at their McDonald’s, Jevh and Christian made a choice to create their own picture to hang there.

Not to be outdone by the other photos gracing the McDonald’s walls, Jevh and Christian formed a plan that they just knew would work.

The two wanted to create a photo featuring Asians, and they knew the exact two people that would do it – themselves.

Yes, Jevh and Christian studied the portraits currently handing in their McDonald’s and figured out how they could be the star models featured in their own shot.

After some debate, Jevh and Christian posed as students in front of their neighborhood events center. There were other students milling around and shot was sure to match what McDonald’s currently featured.

They sent the photo to their local Office Depot, and then received a poster size picture with their likenesses eating fries, of course.

Do you think Asians are underrepresented in advertising?

A strategy was hatched to hang the photo on the restaurant’s walls without being caught. They assembled a McDonald’s employee uniform complete with badge, walkie-talkie, and tie to provide some undercover access. And then off to McDonald’s they went.

Waiting until the coast was clear, Christian and another friend Cassandra held the picture in place. With Jevh’s instructions, they perfectly centered and stuck it to the wall.

Now, the plan was to wait. They wondered when their picture would be taken down or replaced.

A total of 51 days passed before anyone noticed that the picture was not really supposed to be there.

“The poster has been up since, and I hope they never take it down,” Jehv said in a YouTube video posted on Twitter.

“Remember folks, all races deserve recognition, and I guess I did my part,” he added.

The prankster duo was even invited on “The Ellen Show” where Ellen DeGeneres announced that the friends will be featured in a new marketing campaign for McDonald’s and they will each be paid $25,000 for it.

Hats off to Jevh and Christian for pulling the ultimate prank on McDonald’s to give Asians the spotlight they deserve. You two are some crazy kids!
