Terri Irwin Shares Heartwarming #NationalSpouseDay Post in Honor of Late Husband

It seems there’s a holiday for all 365 days of the year, and Jan. 26 just so happened to be #NationalSpouseDay.

Or, National Spouse’s Day (and even National Spouses Day), depending on who’s using the hashtag. Either way, with or without the added “s,” the day is an unofficial holiday meant to honor the most special people in our lives.

According to Holidays Calendar, the origin of this holiday is unknown, but most likely began sometime after the implementation of Military Spouse Appreciation Day (May 10) in 1984.

Thousands of photos pop up when searching the #NationalSpouseDay hashtag. Couples from all over posted their favorite photos with their significant others.

Terri Irwin, wife of the late Steve Irwin, even shared her sentiments, honoring and remembering the man she calls her “best friend.”

The pair were married for 14 years before the famed crocodile hunting personality was tragically killed while filming a documentary. He was only 44 years old.

“So many laughs and love and adventure,” she wrote on Twitter. “Someone to share life’s triumphs and challenges with. My best friend. I miss you. #NationalSpouseDay”

Comments of support have flooded the tweet, which has been retweeted nearly 2,000 times to date. Even so many years later, Steve Irwin’s fans miss him terribly.

“The love you two shared was & STILL is something magical,” @ForTheIrwins wrote. “Not just for each other, but for wildlife as well…”

“Terri, Steve has left a wonderful legacy and you and your children are carrying the torch of wildlife conversation so beautifully!” @jennmulcaster1 noted.

It’s true, too. This family has certainly carried on this man’s legacy. Both of his children, Bindi and Robert, continue to make their dad proud in all they do.

As for Terri Irwin, our hearts are with her as she remembers this man and all the wonderful things he lived for. He was a true “mate” and family man if there ever was one.
