Texas Tech adds nearly 7-foot-tall offensive lineman
Texas Tech landed a few commits last week, but none is as big, literally, as Trevor Roberson.
The offensive lineman from Wellington High School, about 100 miles east of Amarillo, checks in at 6 feet 11 and 355 pounds.
He announced his college commitment on Twitter.
“Super excited and blessed that God has given me the family and the support I have! I have decided to play football at Texas Tech university!!!” Roberson wrote.

Roberson is a three-star prospect per 247 Sports and is the No. 50 offensive tackle in the nation. He clocks in at No. 61 overall in the football-rich state of Texas.
As a member of the Class of 2019, Roberson got his college commitment out of the way early in the process and can just focus on his senior season.
Roberson’s hometown of Wellington is less than 300 miles from Lubbock, and being close to home is a big reason why he chose the Red Raiders.
“I’ve tried to tell myself I wasn’t going to Texas Tech,” Roberson told the Amarillo Globe-News. “But after visiting there, the people already knew who I was and knew my name. I feel it is a school you could go and become your own person. It’s also close to home.
“My mom can come see me play and get home for dinner if she wants. I also have a lot of family and friends that live in Lubbock.”

Roberson had offers from several Big 12 and SEC schools, including Baylor, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and Arkansas.
He had two unofficial visits to Texas Tech over the past two months, and his only two official visits were to Texas A&M and Arkansas.
At 6 feet 11 inches, Roberson is five inches taller than anyone else on Texas Tech’s roster. The Red Raiders have 11 players 6 feet 6 inches tall, with 10 of them being offensive linemen and one being a wide receiver.

It’s unknown if there is anyone taller or as tall as Roberson in all of college football, but we do know there is no one in the NFL at that height.
There were five NFL lineman in 2017 who were listed at 6 feet 9 inches. The only player in NFL history taller than Roberson was Richard Sligh, who stood 7 feet tall.
Sligh played eight games with the Raiders in 1967 but was seen as more of a publicity stunt than an actual player.
Roberson was the fourth commit for the Red Raiders last week, joining fellow three-stars Bryce Robinson, La’Vontae Shenault and Simon Gonzalez.
Texas Tech finished 6-7 last season, which gave the school back-to-back losing seasons for the first time since the mid-1980s. They had a chance to finish with a winning record but lost the Birmingham Bowl to South Florida 38-34.
