Tiger Woods noticed a problem with his clubs so small it's imperceptible to the naked eye
Tiger Woods might be getting longer in the tooth, but at 42 his feel for the game is as sharp as ever.
Woods tried out his new TaylorMade irons during a practice round Wednesday for the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.
According to ESPN’s Michael Collins, Woods noticed his clubs were “half of a degree off.”
While that minute difference in loft would be imperceptible to most people, it didn’t get past Tiger.
“Yesterday, during the pro-am, as he was playing, he told one of the reps for TaylorMade, ‘Hey man, these are about a half-of-a-degree off,'” Collins said Thursday on ESPN, according to Business Insider.
“Now, we all laugh: ‘Yeah, OK, half a degree. Like you can feel that.’ The rep took them to the truck, and what were they? Half a degree off.
“Dude’s amazing.”
Woods is breaking out the new clubs this week in his first event since finishing 32nd at the Masters.
“We have been working closely with Tiger on the development, creation and refinement of a set of TaylorMade irons that meet his precise standards and preferences,” a TaylorMade representative told Golf.com. “As we continue to develop future iterations of Tiger’s prototype irons, ‘TW·Phase1’ marks Tiger’s initial transition into a TaylorMade set.”

In the photo Woods posted, “TW Phase1” appears to be stamped into the irons.
“This set was built to his meticulous specifications,” the TaylorMade representative said. “Based on the positive feedback and excitement expressed by Tiger regarding upcoming prototypes, we are encouraged by the ongoing creation process and look forward to what’s in store for the next phase of Tiger’s irons. As we work toward finalizing Tiger’s new irons, there will be more information to come, including a release date for golfers everywhere.”‘
Woods was off to a decent start at Quail Hollow, tied at 1-under par early Thursday afternoon.

It’s his first time playing there since he missed the cut in 2012.
“The golf course is much harder than it used to be,” Woods said via ESPN. “It’s longer, more difficult. Some of these holes have become a lot more stout.”
